Paul Hübner is a trumpeter and exceptionally gifted pastry baker. He has studied trumpet with Malte Burba and Mike Svoboda in Mainz and Basel and was a member of the International Ensemble Modern Academy in 2009/2010.


As an interpreter, performer, composer and improviser he is notably devoted to new and experimental music and gives concerts in Germany and abroad, as a soloist and as a guest in renowned ensemble formations. He appears at numerous festivals as Lucerne Festival, Milano Musica, Muenchner Biennale, at the Warsaw Autumn, Ultraschall Festival, sounds new, and the Musica Viva Festival in Munich.


An intensive cooperation with composers to contribute to new works for the instrument is a central part of his activity, as well as explorations of new sounds and forms in own compositions and improvisations. He has premiered works by Adriana Hölszky, Niklas Seidl, Jagoda Szmytka, Dmitri Kourliandski, Julio Estrada, Peter Ablinger, Michael Maierhof and many others. His book on extended trumpet techniques will be published by Breitkopf & Härtel in 2016. In 2016, he will appear as the main soloist in the new production of Karlheinz Stockhausen's opera THURSDAY from LIGHT in Basel.


Paul Hübner is prize winner in different national and international competitions, amongst them the International Competition for Contemporary Chamber Music in Cracow, the Competition of the German Music Council (DMR), the composition competition Ensemblia and prize winner of the Stockhausen Courses in 2010, 2011 and 2013.
